ShopCanary

Terms of Service

Last updated 4 August 2026

ShopCanary is a monitoring app for Shopify stores, operated by HJB CodeForge ("we", "us") from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. These terms apply when you install or use the app. Installing it means you accept them. If you do not, uninstall the app.

ShopCanary observes. It never changes your store.

The app requests read-only access and holds no write permissions of any kind. It cannot edit a discount, alter a shipping rate, change a product, or place an order — not by design choice that could be reversed in a later version, but because the permissions to do so were never requested. It tells you what it saw. Acting on that is yours to do.

What the service is

ShopCanary checks orders against rules you declare, and — if you connect it — watches your Google Merchant Center feed. When something stops matching, it records a finding and, depending on your plan and settings, sends you an alert with the evidence behind it.

What it is not

Your responsibilities

Plans and billing

ShopCanary uses Shopify managed pricing. Every charge is created, collected and invoiced by Shopify and appears on your regular Shopify bill. We do not take payment directly, and we never see or store your card details.

The free plan never hides a finding. Everything ShopCanary detects is visible in your dashboard on both plans; Pro changes how quickly you are told about it.

Prices are in US dollars and exclude any taxes Shopify is required to collect. If a price changes, it takes effect at your next billing cycle and you will be told before it does.

Cancelling

Uninstall the app, or change your plan, at any time from your Shopify admin. Cancelling stops future charges. Because billing runs through Shopify, partial periods are handled under Shopify's billing rules, not ours. If you believe you have been charged in error, email us and we will look at it — we would rather refund a charge than argue about one.

Data

What ShopCanary stores, what it deliberately does not store, how long it keeps it, and who processes it are set out in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms. In short: customer personal data is stripped at ingestion and no column exists to hold it. Uninstalling triggers Shopify's redaction webhook, after which every record belonging to your store is deleted.

Availability

We work to keep ShopCanary running continuously and to make its own failures visible rather than silent — a check that stops running is reported as stale, not shown as healthy. We do not offer an uptime guarantee or a service level agreement. Hosting, email delivery and Google's APIs are provided by third parties and can fail independently of us.

Liability

ShopCanary is provided as is. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profit, or lost revenue arising from using the app or from a problem it did not detect. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us for the app in the twelve months before the claim.

Nothing here limits liability for fraud, or for anything that cannot lawfully be limited.

Suspension

We may suspend or end access if the app is used unlawfully, in a way that threatens the service or other merchants, or in breach of these terms. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you first and give you a chance to put it right.

Changes to these terms

We will post any material change on this page and update the date above. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept it.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, and the courts of Ontario have jurisdiction.
